RESTful Services with ASP.NET MVC (1 hour 01 min 56 sec)

<img align="left" src="http://tv.devexpress.com/Content/Webinars/RESTServicesASP.NETMVC/firstframe.jpg" border="0" />REST is the architecture of the Web, and RESTful Web services are now the most popular way of enabling browser-based applications to access information and behavior on Web servers. In Web 2.0 applications, desktop-like responsiveness and versatility are driven by client-side script code, and RESTful services with JavaScript-friendly request and response formats vastly simplify this kind of code. Open source frameworks like Rails have historically made the server side of these services correspondingly straightforward to implement, but the .NET community hasn’t benefitted from this kind of work until recently. Now, however, ASP.NET MVC (itself an open source project), along with the modest assistance of some other open-source tools and conventions, makes it easy to write full-featured RESTful Web services. We’ll explore REST itself, what RESTful Web services look like, and how to write them using the MVC framework along with Steve Hodgkiss’s RESTful Routing library.

<img align="left" src="http://tv.devexpress.com/Content/Webinars/CRFWDependencyPt1/firstframe.jpg" border="0" />Mark and Rory build a new refactoring, Replace Parameter with Interface, to make it easier to introduce dependency injection into existing architectures. This is the first of two tools we'll build in the CodeRush Feature Workshop that will make it easier to decouple dependencies from your code. Every Wednesday Mark Miller and Rory Becker build a new feature for Visual Studio using CodeRush and the DXCore. Features are selected based on your requests, so you have full control over the content in these sessions. Features are built live right before your eyes, and submitted to the CodeRush community site after the session ends so you can download and install the feature immediately. Got a feature idea for CodeRush or Visual Studio? Submit it to roryb@devexpress.com or tweet it (include “#CodeRush” in your suggestion).

CodeRush Feature Workshop: Search Providers in Depth (1 hour 01 min 15 sec)

<img align="left" src="http://tv.devexpress.com/Content/Webinars/CRFWSearchProviders/firstframe.jpg" border="0" />Mark and Rory build a new navigation feature - Tab to Matching Tag, and enhance CodeRush's Rename abilities for INotifyPropertyChanged implementers.

Researchers in active areas of science in addition to corporate Information Workers face a different challenge: Gathering data is so easy and quick that it exceeds our capacity to validate, analyze, visualize, store, and curate the information. This talk addresses this challenge and the opportunity it presents.

CTO Message - NonVerbal Communication (01 min 39 sec)

<img align="left" src="http://tv.devexpress.com/Content/Julian/NonVerbalCom/firstframe.jpg" border="0" />In the late 60s and early 70s, Albert Mehrabian was researching how we perceive information presented to us verbally. His investigation centered on three areas:The actual words being spoken. The tone of voice used to present the information. The body language, or non-verbal cues.He came to the conclusion that all three parts had to be "congruent" in order to effectively present the information being imparted. If one part is out of whack, the communication of ideas is strongly decreased. Furthermore, he assigned a percentage to each part to describe how effective it was. This became known as the 7%-38%-55% rule. Incredibly enough, non-verbal cues are the most effective way to get your message across. Although Mehrabian's research centered on ambiguous communications where the subject of the experiment was asked to like or dislike the speaker, or otherwise evaluate their feelings about them, the conclusions are applicable to verbal communications in general. Although possibly not with the same percentages. So next time you have a presentation to make in front of an audience, be it just one person or two (SHE TURNS TO HIM) or a room of people. Engage that audience with your words, tone of voice, and non-verbal cues. Pay attention to your body language. Open up, don’t close down. Be passionate. Or you will sound like this. And no one will remember or care what you had to say.

CTO Message - Compilers.Compilers? (02 min 00 sec)

<img align="left" src="http://tv.devexpress.com/Content/Julian/CompilersCompilers/firstframe.jpg" border="0" />Back in the days of yore, pre-Internet, you knew where you stood with compilers. You'd write some code in some quasi-mathematical English, and then you'd let loose a compiler on it to produce a nice object file containing machine code that you then linked with other obj files into a program. Easy, huh? That must have been some time ago -- I'm showing my age here -- because we've had interpreters for a while where the code gets compiled on the fly into macro instructions that a state machine can execute. We've even had compilers that produce some kind of intermediate language that gets executed by a run-time virtual machine, which is after all a glorified state machine. But just recently I've been looking into another type of compiler altogether, one that compiles your code into another programming language. Because of my natural bent at the moment, I'm particularly interested in compilers that compile to JavaScript. One example is Script# which compiles C# code written against a special run-time to the equivalent JavaScript code. The interesting thing about this one is the conversion of a strongly-typed language into a dynamic language. That's possibly the most extreme case, however there's another that's just as powerful: CoffeeScript. What this one does is it abstracts out all the nasty things about JavaScript, adds a bunch of syntactic sugar, and compiles to very clean JavaScript. Companies like Google are now starting to add debugging information to the compiler output so that you can debug CoffeeScript directly. I often hear that some people find it hard to write client-side code in JavaScript. I think we're getting to the point where it'll no longer be necessary. JavaScript is becoming the assembly language of the web: write in some high level language, compile to JavaScript, and deploy the files produced as part of your site.

Taking Your Application Design to the Next Level with Analysis Services Data Mining (1 hour 01 min 15 sec)

<img align="left" src="http://tv.devexpress.com/Content/Webinars/AnalysisServicesDataMining/firstframe.jpg" border="0" /><para>Data mining as a technology supports the discovery of patterns and statistics not easily visible in relational database queries, and in many cases these patterns can be used to deliver predictions. These patterns can be used to derive knowledge about data, and in turn this knowledge can be used to enhance application designs and the user experience. In this presentation you will be introduced to Analysis Services 2005 and 2008 Data Mining and numerous demonstrations that show how to develop data mining models that can be embedded into your applications. Demonstrations will be based on Analysis Services 2008 R2 Data Mining and Visual Studio 2010. This presentation is a must for any developer looking to embed Artificial Intelligence into their solution design to take their applications to the next level. It is designed to thrill you with potential, and excite you with the ease in which it can be accomplished. The demonstrations range from simple (involving no code!) to more sophisticated examples. This presentation is targeted at developers with an interest in data mining, and equally for non-developers interested to understand and evaluate what data mining could achieve for them. There is no requirement to have any background or experience with data mining technologies.</para>

Towards Code Correctness: Integrating Software Contracts and Unit Testing (1 hour 01 min 04 sec)

<img align="left" src="http://tv.devexpress.com/Content/Webinars/CodeCorrectnessWebinar/firstframe.jpg" border="0" /><para>We all agree that writing tests is helpful, recommended and even sexy. However, unless you associate it with some test-driven design methodology, writing tests risks being an end in itself. On one hand you have the classes to test; on the other hand, you have classes that promise to test other classes. And nothing in the middle that guarantees that tests are appropriate and meaningful. An approach that creates the environment for a much more effective refactoring, while not excluding unit testing, is based on software contracts. A software contract defines the terms and conditions for each method in each class. That gives you an optional run time checking mechanism as well as concrete guidance on how to refactor when you have to. Software contracts are not a new concept in software, but only now they have a widespread implementation in .NET. This webinar shows you why you should look seriously at software contracts—Code Contracts in the .NET jargon—and what’s the appropriate angle and perspective for that.</para>
